FUHS SCHOOL TOUR FOR 50 YEAR ALUMNI

By special arrangement, a rare school tour was given to the Class of '53 on the Saturday morning of the 50th Reunion banquet, April 26, 2003. The high school provided a special short organ recital and viewing of the recently uncovered fresco on the outside corridor of the Plummer Auditorium and opened up the clock tower and the catacombs (with guides to explain these points of interest). We were then escorted around the campus and into the admin office to see the Wall of Fame which held pictures of 2 of our own classmates- Allan Bridgford and Dick Foster.  Those who missed the tour can hope there is another for the 100th reunion celebration.
(If you have any pictures of the tour to share, please contact me at CVanHorn@pacbell.net)
Shirley McFarland Tardie and Connie Stafford Van Horn proudly show the school logo in front of the Plummer Auditorium.
"Cat Crazy" Connie finds her favorite part of the recovered fresco on the outside corridor wall of the Plummer Auditourium.
The goriest bit of the fresco that depicts early Orange County history- a bear and bull fight.

Getting ready to climb the clock tower.
Connie, Donna and Roger Butler and Theo Dwinell (trying to see her old house beside the campus) have survived the climb.
Part-way up the tower in the clock room is a good place to rest up.
The door that we used to enter the auditorium was unsafe (I guess we are lucky to have survived) and filled in.
We were told more about the features of the auditorium (and got to rest up before the walking tour of the campus).
Front row: Jerry Vanderzyl, Bridgfords, Vonnie Johnsons
2nd row: Lovice Chism McKay, Lois Putman, Charlie and Shirley Foster Hass, Pat Vierra Mitchell
Gary Minnis and who else?
The most interesting part of the catacombs was the mystery of why it held an old fashioned kayak. (Unless it was the bad word graffiti that Dave Walters spotted.)
The dirt on the walkway shows where the time capsule was dug up for the banquet's unveiling. (It held a hand-written list of all the graduates of the class of 1953.)  We have to decide what to put back in it.
The above pictures were taken by son #1 Peter Stafford Van Horn. There will be more pictures added later when I get pictures that need to be scanned first.
You can down-load any picture to your computer by RIGHT-clicking on the picture and then choosing to save the picture.
The following pictures were taken by Roger Butler's wife Donna.
The high school provided a guide to explain the fresco and to point out the main features within the auditorium.
